Abraham Lincoln is best known for the abolishment of slavery and therefore one of the most popular presidents in US history. Dutch artist Erik Velthuis wanted to bring this well-known historical person back to the present day. In contrast to earlier black-and-white photos and artworks, the artist decided to airbrush Lincoln in color. At the same time, however, it was important to him to give the artwork some old features and details. The portrait is completed by a noble, oval frame and a brass doorplate engraved with the year of birth and death of Lincoln, which makes the artwork very special.
