Surfaces suitable for airbrushing come and go. Sometimes it’s cardboard, sometimes canvas, synthetic paper, aluminium plate or clay board. Which one is the best of these is little more than a matter of taste. Currently, there’s a new painting surface hitting the market and it’s ”Liquid Paper“ from the Italian manufacturer Teckadesign. This new illustration surface is handmade from passionate artists for artists and, as it sounds, this new surface is in and of itself a bit of a work of art. Its fabrication requires a good bit of precision and a lot of detail in the surface characteristics.
We were very surprised when a large, yet very light package arrived in the editorial department. The material comes from the world of flying models and consists of so-called EPS on the inside (Sintered Expander Polystyrene), which is known for its levity and resistance. In addition, the material has been given a protective UV layering, is waterproof, and fireproof. The surface is hard and flat and makes a few various painting options possible. For airbrushers, it’s particularly interesting that applied paint can be excellently erased and scraped from this surface.
