They’ve been causing quite a stir on social media for months, although the new Iwata Takumi airbrushes haven’t been available until fall 2021. Why so much excitement? The two new models, the Iwata Takumi Eclipse and Iwata Takumi Custom Micron, replace the extremely popular CM-SB2 and HP-SBS side-feed models that have been around for decades. They feature a redesigned, compact body and a new 7 ml side-port flow cup with lid, which the manufacturer says optimizes paint flow, makes the airbrush extremely responsive in use, and prevents clogging and makes cleaning easier.
Unfortunately, the Airbrush Step by Step editorial team did not have a test unit of the Iwata Takumis by the time issue No. 61 went to press. However, we look forward to taking a closer look at the Takumis in issue No. 62 (from December 16, 2021).
