Daryl Dixon is one of the main characters in the successful horror series ”The Walking Dead“ and is played by American actor Norman Reedus. As a fan of this genre, Indonesian artist Ardy Marjohan felt it to be very important to face the challenges of creating skin hues that appear rough and dirty as well as strongly distinct skin structures in his portrait of Reedus.
About the artist:
Ardy Marjohan lives in Dumai on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. He worked at a printing house until 2009 and at this point in time, digital printing measures were extremely expensive in Indonesia, such that company signs were often designed using painting techniques and the airbrush. Ardy purchased an airbrush, a compressor and some paint, worked on various painting exercises when at home, watched airbrush tutorials at YouTube and read articles about painting online. He later conducted some of his first airbrush works on his friends’ vehicles. By mid-2010, he had opened an airbrush studio under the name of “POLA Airbrush” thanks to the support and motivation of his parents. In the meantime, his atelier has several employees who help him predominantly with the subsurface preparations such as grinding and priming works. He had offers to work as an airbrush artist in Saudi Arabia or Dubai, but he turned them down because that would have meant he’d have to leave his family behind. Aside, he works as a wedding photographer. One of his current goals is to get better at creating airbrush portraits and he hopes to one day be able to teach courses on airbrushing.
